Statement on Andżelika Borys

Dear Sirs,

The following statement of the World Polonia Council in Polish, signed 29 Polish expat organizations from 20 countries worldwide, highlights their protest at the arrest of Andzelika Borys, the President of their sister organization in Belarus, the Union of Poles in Belarus.

Here is a translation of the World Polonia Council Pronouncement:

"WORLD POLONIA COUNCIL

PRONOUNCEMENT

We, named signatories below, attending a Presidents’ Meeting of member organizations of the World Polonia Council on 16th October 2021, firmly declare our unanimous support for Andzelika Borys, President of the Union of Poles in Belarus.

Andzelika Borys was deprived by the government of the Republic of Belarus of her civic and human rights to which she was constitutionally entitled. Since 23rd March this year, despite serious health conditions requiring medical treatment, she has been in prison, where she has been subjected to ignominious methods of persecution, without the means of a defence.

We jointly express our objection to the conduct of the authorities of the Republic of Belarus in relation to Andzelika Borys and appeal to Polish and Polonia institutions throughout the whole world to protest incessantly in her case."

The Federation of Poles in Great Britain urges the UK press to give voice to a protest to the Belarusian Government at the arrest of Andzelika Borys and demand her immediate release.
